I have recently been using a part of this area as part of a Sunday morning run. Myself and a couple of friends run from Houston, along Killallan Road, into the woods on the right and along the boardwalks to Kilmacolm. We then go up West Glen Road and back onto Corsliehill Road, down Reilly Road and back to Houston. It's about 12 miles. It got me thinking about organising a short trail run for the jogging club I run in Houston - Houston Jogging Buddies. It would make a change from running on roads. However, having done the loop of Glen Moss, I think, at this time of year the boardwalks are probably too slippy and the path a bit overgrown in places. So, maybe in the spring I'll look at it again. However, it brought back memories of my childhood. My Mum is from Kilmacolm, and my grandmother was born there. I have very scant memories of my grandfather taking me on walks on "The Moss" as it was known then. I have to say I don't remember much about it, but seem to remember going through what I now know as a kissing gate. The good thing is, I decided to look into the history of Kilmacolm a bit more and came across a lovely piece by Brown McMinn. I showed this to my mum and it transported her back to her childhood. I spent hours yesterday listening to her memories of Kilmacolm. It really was a pleasure to see her recounting her memories. All this started with a run through Glen Moss Reserve or "The Moss". Thank you. Still thinking about the trail run but not when it's so slippy. Rhonda Fitzpatrick
